The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has formally inaugurated a transmission work centre at the 132/33kV, 3 x 60MVA transmission substation at Afaha Ube, Uyo to reduce the down time in resolving power transmission issues in Akwa Ibom State.
TCN’s team was led by the Regional Transmission Manager, Engr. Idris Lawal Alim on courtesy visits to the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Power to Governor Udom Emmanuel and the Managing Director of Ibom Power Company Limited, Engr. Meyen Etukudo and the Commissioner for Power and Petroleum Development in Akwa Ibom State, Dr. John James Etim.
Speaking on the impact of the work centre, Engr. Meyen Etukudo said, “If there is a transmission line cut or any problem at Uyo, Itu, Eket, Ekim or Ikot Abasi, we do not have to call people from Calabar to come for the repairs”.
“TCN personnel from this newly inaugurated work centre will take off from here in Uyo to Itu, Eket, Ekim, Ikot Abasi or anywhere the transmission fault is in the state to speedily resolve the issue thereby reducing the downtime significantly”.
He said the presence of a work centre in Uyo will also assist the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) to manage power and outages on all the feeders in Akwa Ibom State while also ensuring that TCN has a significant presence in Akwa Ibom State because critical departments in TCN will be domiciled at the Uyo work centre.
The Regional Transmission Manager, Port Harcourt transmission region, Engr. Idris Lawal Alim who spoke at the inauguration stated that the team from TCN, which had the Assistant General Manager (AGM), TCN Calabar sub region, Engr. Nasiru Bello and the new work centre Manager, Engr. John Adetunji came to formally inaugurate the Uyo transmission work centre.
Engr. Alim said the purpose of TCN’s courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Power and Petroleum Development, Dr. Etim and the SSA on Power/MD, Ibom Power, Engr. Etukudo was to introduce the Manager of the new Uyo work centre, Engr. John Adetunji.
In his remark, the Commissioner for Power and Petroleum Development, Dr. John James Etim said that Akwa Ibom State Government is thrilled by the presence of a work centre in the state. He said, “On our part as Government, we will offer all the support that we can to ensure that this work centre is a success”.
The formal inauguration of the Uyo transmission work centre was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power and Petroleum Development, Dr. Valerie Obot, the Director, Engr. Effiong Antigah along with technical personnel from TCN.
