‘NEW SUBSTATION WILL BOOST POWER IN UYO’

The Managing Director of Ibom Power Company Limited and Special Assistant on Power to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Engr. Meyen Etukudo has said a new injection substation currently under construction at Edet Akpan Avenue, in Uyo will improve power supply in the State.

He spoke at his office during a media chat with Journalists upon resumption of his new role as the MD of Ibom power. Engr. Etukudo said the 2 x 15MVA injection substation (33kV/11kV) will aid the distribution of additional 24MW of power to Uyo.

‘The construction of this substation will enable the provision of dedicated 11kV power distribution lines to Shelter Afrique estate, Ewet Housing estate, four-lane, Osongama and most of the places in that environ’ he said.

The MD spoke further that among the ongoing power projects in the State is the provision of a dedicated line to Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort.

He said, ‘When the substation is completed, the power supply in Uyo will be stabilized, reliable and quality and the issue of low voltage will be over because the new substations will relieve existing substations’.

The Governor’s aide said that the substation at four-lane ought to have been completed last December but  the project was met with challenges of acquiring the land and foreign exchange amongst oth er challenges.

Engr. Etukudo who said the substation is one of the most modern substations expressed optimism that the project will be commissioned on or before the second anniversary of Governor Udom Emmanuel in May 2017.
