IMMIGRATION OFFICE LAMENTS POOR POWER SUPPLY

The men and officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, Akwa Ibom State Command Headquarters have lamented the working conditions in the NIS Uyo office due to the lack of a steady and quality power supply.

The Comptroller-in-charge of immigration in Akwa Ibom State Command Headquarters, G.C. Didel, disclosed during a courtesy visit to the Senior Special Assistant on Power, SSA-Power, to Governor Udom Emmanuel and Managing Director of Ibom Power Company Limited, Engr. Meyen Etukudo.

The immigration Boss who was deployed to Akwa Ibom State in June last year said the lack of a steady and quality power supply at their office poses a huge security challenge to the law enforcement officers especially at night and appealed to the State Government for intervention.

Engr. Etukudo who doubles as the Governor’s aide on Power and the MD of Ibom Power assured the delegation of the State Government’s readiness to intervene and improve the power supply at the NIS Uyo office.

He said thus far, the state Government has distributed and installed over 450 transformers across communities in the state even though it ought to be the responsibility of the distribution company, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC.

The Governor’s aide asked the NIS to put their request into a formal letter addressed to the Governor and the Commissioner for Power. He said the Power Sector office will take it from there.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Immigration Service has continued to encourage the use of its ECOWAS travel certificate, which according to the NIS, grants travelers access to the 16 ECOWAS countries.

The Comptroller-in-charge of immigration in Akwa Ibom State Command Headquarters, G.C. Didel speaking on the use of the travel certificate said that the ECOWAS travel certificate will save travelers more pages in their international passport and can be obtained within hours for about N3,800 only.

He said the NIS will have a sensitization seminar on the 25th of March 2022 to keep people up to date on the new visa policy. ‘In the past, there were only about 5 or 6 types of visas but as at now, there are about 79 types of visas. For every conceivable reason that a foreigner wants to come into the county, there is a visa for it’ he said.
