A Director at Ibom Power Company Limited, IPC, and former Local Government Chairman of Ikot Abasi, Barrister Uwem Ekanem has emerged the Chairman of the Committee of Elders constituted by the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, ICSAN, Akwa Ibom State chapter.
The Chairman of ICSAN Akwa Ibom State, Barrister Ime Asibong, who inaugurated the Committee recently, stated that the Committee of Elders will provide general advisory services and strategic support to the executives of ICSAN towards the realization of the three-point agenda of the newly-sworn in executives.
At his investiture held in April this year, Barrister Asibong had highlighted the three-point agenda for his two-year tenure to include building a N50million secretariat complex to provide a befitting office for members in the state, promoting good corporate governance and capacity development through internships.
According the ICSAN Chairman, the Committee of Elders is also expected to establish a working synergy with the Akwa Ibom State Government towards securing an audience with the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and to implement the internship programme proposed by the ICSAN executives.
The newly appointed Committee Chairman, Barrister Uwem Ekanem, a former Majority Leader in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, noted that although the committee has been bestowed with immense responsibilities, they will work beyond the terms of reference.
“We will do everything within limitations to ensure that this committee succeeds for ICSAN. After this meeting, we will meet to set up a template on how the committee will carry out our work”.
“The most important issue at hand is the forthcoming ICSAN conference on the 24th of September 2021 and we will get the political class and lawyers involved” he said.
Barrister Ekanem, a Lawyer with over three decades post call to Bar experience, said, “One would have thought at my level and the level of other members of the Elders’ Committee, what do we want to do with ICSAN’S certification? A lot”.
“I sit on the Board of Ibom Power Company, it was when I took some of the courses of ICSAN that I realised some of the issues that our Board secretary and legal adviser of the company used to raise”.
“This time around, I am sure that since I have also acquired some degree of the knowledge, things will be easier for him now”. Barr. Ekanem appreciated the executives for counting members of the Committee of Elders fit. He said the committee will not disappoint ICSAN.
Other members of ICSAN’s Committee of Elders are Mr. Andem Ndem, Mrs. Itoro Cletus Ekpo, Mr. Augustine Udoibid, Mr. Idongesit Jimmy Okonetuk, Barr. Ime Asibong, Mrs. Chinonyerem Ememobong, Akp. Aniedi Sunday Amos and Mr. Ebenezer Akpabio.
