POWER EXPERTS URGE FG TO SUPPORT NEWER MODELS

‘The Federal Government (FG) needs to encourage and support alternative working models at the macro level to solve the national power problem’ Ibom power MD has said.
The MD spoke at the 2015 Electricity Market Summit in Abuja with the theme “Charting a strategic Course for the Nigerian Electricity Market for Improved Productivity and Competitiveness Post 2015 elections”.
He said “to enhance wholesale market productivity and competitiveness, Nigeria’s electricity market should be viewed as a value constellation with diversification of market participants and regulatory models”.
“There is also need for good fuel (gas) infrastructure along with reliable transmission and distribution infrastructure while generating companies need to have their sense of direction clearly articulated” he said.
Dr. Udo concluded by saying, “Akwa Ibom State and Ibom Power Company are currently serving as a model for national applications. We have the basic building blocks for steady power supply – gas, generation, transmission, distribution and utility core competency”.
The 2015 Electricity Market Summit had a former Minister of National Planning, Dr Shamsudeen Usman as the Chairman.
