AKWA IBOM STATE DISTRIBUTES 450 TRANSFORMERS TO COMMUNITIES

Four hundred and fifty (450) distribution transformers have been distributed to more than 2000 villages in Akwa Ibom State by the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
The Managing Director of Ibom Power Company Limited and Senior Special Assistant on Power to the Governor, Engr. MeyenEtukudo disclosed this in an interview with journalists held at his office in Uyo.
Engr. Etukudo said even though the power sector was privatized on 1st November 2013, Akwa Ibom State Government has continued to invest in the construction power infrastructure across the state.
He said the Government’s installation of power distribution transformers in Akwa Ibom communities is a demonstration of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s commitment to providing steady and quality power supply to all Akwa Ibom communities.
The Governor’s aide said Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) ought to be responsible for the provision of transformers and other power distribution interventions across the state but due to the lapses of PHEDC, the State Government has continued to intervene.
“Akwa Ibom State’s Ministry of Rural Development has installed 214 transformers while the Power Sector office has installed 186 transformers and Inter-Ministerial has installed 50 transformers”
Engr. Etukudo said that the total number of transformers distributed thus far by the State Government under UdomEmmanuel’s administration is four hundred and fifty.
He disclosed that there are two thousand two hundred and seventy-four gazetted villages in Akwa Ibom State and that two thousand and nine villages have been connected to the electricity grid.
Engr. Etukudo stated further that work is ongoing to connect the remaining two hundred and sixty-five villages to the power grid under the power-for-all initiative of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
